Hero’s day adds one more to its elite rank. Dr. Roy Edison Mctaggart is the newest hero to be named. Dr Mctaggart is remembered most for ensuring that Cayman remained a British colony after Jamiaca decided to go independent in 1962. He also brought free schooling to Cayman through the Compulsory Free Education Bill. Dr. Roy’s Drive in George Town is named after him. He is also the 9th national hero, and the 1st person to be named since 2012.
Agriculture was the main theme of this year’s celebrations and more than 300 local farmers were honoured for their service during the colorful parade and awards ceremony. In attendance were several dignitaries. Including the Governor, the Premier and the Minister of Agriculture.
