Crime down says Commissioner

Commissioner of police David Baines says crime in Cayman is on the decrease.

Although official end of year stats are still being collated, Mr. Baines says overall, there has been a reduction compared to 20-14.

“We are looking somewhere between the 8 and 11 per cent crime reduction overall,” said the Commissioner.

“The important ones, the ones that are the headline grabbers for you, burglaries, well we’re down. We’re down probably in the order of about 8 per cent at the moment. Robberies, again, down. Last year we had about 26, so far we’re about 14.

“So we are significantly less of the high end offences. And some of that is because we have success in keeping repeat offenders inside.”
