Women’s flag team captures US national title

There’s a new national flag football champion in the United States and the new champ isn’t even from that nation.

Cayman’s women’s team over the weekend captured the United States Touch and Flag Football B-Division national championship.

Cayman placed several players on the all-tournament team.

“I think it shows the growth,” national team player Maggie Ebanks said upon the team’s return to Cayman 18 January at the Owen Roberts International Airport. “I think it shows obviously if you work hard — even though coming from a smaller country with smaller amoutn of personnel, smaller amount of people — that obviously we can still accomplish things that people in the US can. People that have more personnel and more people to pull from.”

The tournament featured more than 400 teams across several men’s and women’s divisions.
