Beach volleyballers spike into next round of Olympic qualifying

Cayman Islands beach volleyball players Stefania Gandolfi and Jessica Wolfenden are through to the next round of qualifying for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games, in Rio.

Cayman finished sixth over the weeekend at the second round of the Women’s NORCECA Continental Cup Inter-Zonal Olympic qualifier.

Cayman went 2-3 after receiving a first-round bye, falling to Sint Marteen in the quarterfinals but beating Grenada and Saint Lucia in the losers bracket.

Cayman then fell to Jamaica in the losers bracket semifinals and Suriname in the fifth-place match.

The third round of Olympic qualifying is scheduled for May in El Salvador.

Trinidad and Tobago won the tournament.
