Former health boss Canover Watson is behind bars Thursday (4 February) after a jury found him guilty of fraud.

A jury of six women and one man returned their verdicts.

Two counts of conspiracy to defraud. Guilty.

Conflict of interest. Guilty.

Fraud on the government. Guilty.

Breach of trust. Guilty.

Watson was found not guilty on the count of transferring criminal property.

Judge Justice Michael Mettyear adjourned sentencing to Friday (5 February) until then he remanded Mr. Watson in custody.
He was led handcuffed from court room number five under the escort of the r-c-i-p-s…. But driven just a short distance to the main court building…. Where the 45 year old was held.

The Judge had special praise for the detectives from the Anti-Corruption Commission who investigated the case. In a statement issued shortly after the verdict was returned the ACC said it will: “Continue to do its part to hold accountable those public officials who do not perform their duties honestly or with integrity and subsequently break the law.”

Cayman 27’s Paul Kennedy was in court to hear the verdict and joins Tammi Sulliman to discuss the verdict.
