Caymanian unemployment on the slide, says minister

Financial Services Minister Hon. Wayne Panton has revealed unemployment is on the slide.

While he says cabinet is now looking at the latest workforce data, the minister wouldn’t let the cat out of the bag as to by how much the numbers dipped. “But it shows a very significant improvement in the level of unemployment – among both Caymanians and across the board as well. The trend is very positive but having said that we are a government that feels and understands there are issues with our people are not able to get opportunities where there a lot of people on work permits,” said Minister Panton.

The last figure given by government is that the jobless rate among Caymanians hovers around 8 per cent.

Mr. Panton says Finance Minister Hon. Marco Archer should be revealing the new number in a couple weeks time.
