Two Cuban migrants were each sentenced in summary court Friday (19 February) to three months imprisonment.
The two men, Liodanis Sanchez Barrio and Ennier Guillermo Puig, who had landed illegally in the Beach Bay area on Grand Cayman two weeks ago, were found wandering in the vicinity of Lantern Point Tuesday (16 February 2016) and taken into custody.
Once they serve the sentence, the two men will be deported to Cuba, according to immigration authorities.
Acting Chief Immigration Officer, Mr. Bruce Smith said, “We believe this sentence should be a deterrent to other migrants who land illegally.” He added, “The department will ensure that illegal immigration is met with strong action.”
