CULL lionfish efforts get $20k boost from Foster’s Food Fair

A major ally in the fight against the invasive lionfish has signed on for another year of support for Cayman United Lionfish League.

Foster’s Food Fair has stepped up to support cull for a third year, using proceeds from its plastic shopping bag sales to fund CULL’s annual slate of lionfish tournaments.

With $20,000 in prize money at stake, Foster’s Food Fair’s Julian Foster said, for cullers, that’s 20,000 reasons to ‘kill them and grill them’.

“People love incentives, and if you’re able to give an incentive for something so important as cull, why not?” said Mr. Foster. “We’re going to have people going out and culling lionfish anyways, but to give them a reason to go out and try to get as many as they can and remove as many fish as possible, let’s make it happen, let’s see how many we can remove.”
Mr. Foster told Cayman 27 that in over two years of supporting cull, divers and snorkelers have removed more than 6,000 lionfish from our reefs.
