Organised sports in Little Cayman have always lagged behind leagues in the two bigger islands, but one Sister Islands sports leaders says that’s beginning to change.
Cayman Brac Football Club’s Mitchum Sanford — who works heavily in Sister Islands sports — says the island is making huge strides.
“In Little Cayman we have three active sports,” Sanford said, adding that’s the first time that statement could be made. “We have sports development committee over there that is led by Cristobal Stewart. They’re doing an amazing job. Sport is literally going on all year in Little Cayman. They’re a little sub-committee of the Sports Association of the Sister Islands here in the Brac. We’re trying to get a fourth sport, which is hockey. Because we have a lot of Canadian and US people working over there. So we’re hoping by the end of the year we’ll have four active sports going all year round in Little Cayman.”
Sanford says Little Cayman’s active leagues have been running for about 18 months.
