Plate shortage hits Cayman

The Department of Vehicles and Drivers License has ran out of license plates. Ergo the number of cars with temporary plates on the road has steadily increased.

Officials at the  DVDL told Cayman 27 they foresaw a potential shortage and took action to prevent it, however due to circumstances out of their control they were unable to prevent it.

A spokesperson for the DVDL said, “The stock of license plates in Cayman ran out, creating a shortage of plates for vehicles. The DVDL placed an order prior to the shortage, however that order still has not arrived.”

Cayman 27 understands that order was place prior to the Christmas season, but is not expected to arrive in Cayman for another 6 weeks.
