Some road disruptions are planned over the next few days. The big one will take place on Sunday (7 February) when a portion of the Esterley Tibbetts Highway is closed between the Camana Bay roundabout at Lawrence Boulevard and the Butterfield roundabout near A.L. Thompson. The Lakeside apartment complex will still be accessible to local traffic from the south.
The closure will allow a crew to replace a sewer force main with a new pipeline.
“There’s a pipe that runs from the main pumping station by West Bay Road to our wastewater treatment plant located behind the dump,” said Hannah Reid of the Water Authority-Cayman, “That pipeline was installed in 1988 and we need to replace that now.”
Drivers on the East-West Arterial will notice road work that should not impede their progress. Concrete barriers are being installed in the median between the Red Bay roundabout and the Tomlinson roundabout in Prospect. The work will run from 7:00am to 4:00pm weekdays through 19 February.
There will also be road closures for the Cayman Mardi Gras festivities. Harbour Drive will be closed in front of Bayshore Mall on Monday (8 February) from 6:00pm to midnight, and on Tuesday (9 February) starting at 7:00pm. And the road will be closed in front of Margaritaville on Ash Wednesday (10 February) from 9:00am until midnight.
Fort Street will be closed on Monday and Tuesday from North Church Street to Albert Panton from 9:00am to 3:00pm for the Mardi Gras Marketplace Festival.
