CIRA: Refs haven’t been paid this year

Details continue to emerge about the disgruntled Cayman Islands Referees Association and why they’re mulling a work stoppage when it comes to domestic football matches.

CIRA says that the Cayman Islands Football Association has failed to pay referees for their work since December of 2015. That issue is in addition to the threatening behaviour displayed by coaches and players on the pitch.

“I’ve discussed it with the disciplinary committee and they’re gonna take a hard look at these cases,” Acting CIFA President Bruce Blake said. “And I sent through a message to the teams for them to meet with their players and their coaches and fans to let them know they have to respect the referees.”
