Credit card fraudsters jailed

Well organised and sophisticated – that’s how a judge described an international gang of credit card fraudsters.

Three Romanians, a Brit and an American woman were jailed for a total of 10 years Friday (18 March) after trying to steal thousands of dollars from banks in Cayman.

They were only caught after an eagle-eyed bank employee spotted two of the gang walking along West Bay Road and followed them to Treasure Island.

The gang arrived in Cayman separately and used store and gift cards cloned with genuine credit card details to try and withdraw cash from Cayman National Bank and Butterfield Bank.

Those jailed were British national Ayoub Cheaaibi (2 years), Romanians Ovidui-Giulian Dobrea (22 months) Ionut-Catalin Petcu (30 months) and Marius-Ioan Bud-Popa (30 months).

Making up the gang was America Nytia Tunea Bradley (22 months).
