An employment survey shows that nearly 98 per cent of its respondents are not work ready and face multiple barriers to getting and remaining in jobs.
The survey was put together by the National Workforce Development Agency (NWDA) and saw 20 per cent of job seekers e-mail back – 137 responses.
Employers had a slightly better response rate, nearly 30 per cent with 250 responses.
It’s a comprehensive survey looking at the problems job seekers face, including mental health problems, major skills gaps, criminal records etc.
The report goes on to say “an analysis of the data collected suggests there is a lack of competitiveness among a small segment of the Caymanian labour force that is beset with challenges that hamper their long-term employment prospect, which require government attention and investment in terms of training and development.”
