Footballers prepare for CAL Youth Cup

Young footballers will get the opportunity to showcase their skills, when they participate in the CAL Invitational Youth Cup. Now in its third year, the tournament gives Caymanian athletes an opportunity to see where they stand, in terms of international competition. Virgil Seymour, of Academy Sports Club, says it’s “good feedback” for the players. Athletes have already begun training for the tournament.

Mr. Seymour says that over the years the tournament has grown significantly. Eight teams are already set to take part in the invitations, with 3 being local, and more are set to sign on as well.
In addition to be a training ground for the players, it’s also a fundraiser for the academy. Over 250 children participate in 7 leagues within the club. The club runs a school tutoring programme as well as a programme for students with special needs.
The tournament is set to take place 21-26 June, and will have a heavy social media presence.
