Physicians from Holy Cross Hospital are in the Cayman Islands to help promote heart health. Doctors from the hospital are taking part in the Cayman Heart Fund’s Heart Smart Week, which focuses on prevention and education for medical professionals and the wider community.
Dr. Manuel Mantecon, Director of International Services, says Holy Cross continues to participate in events like this, because it wants to continue “supporting Cayman”.
Cardiologist, Dr. Jorge Flores, shared information about a new specialty, cardiac oncology. Heart disease is the number one killer in the Western World, while cancer is the third cause of death in the United States. Dr. Flores says this new specialty came about because of the increase in cancer patients developing heart conditions. Cardiac oncology is multidisciplinary, and focuses on prevention, treatment and post care.
Dr. Mantecon and Dr. Flores will be participating in the Cayman Heart Fund’s free health fair on Saturday 19 March. In addition to speaking with the doctors of Holy Cross Hospital, visitors will also be able to have free health screenings. The fair takes place at the ARC at Camana Bay between 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
