Maritime week planned

The rising tide lifts all boats, says those behind the Cayman Maritime Week conference.

The event is planned for later this year in May. It hopes to attract some of the biggest players on the local and international scene.

During a press conference at the Government Administration Building, Sherice Arman said there are several things already in place to facilitate the development of thriving and highly competitive maritime industry in Cayman.

“The rising tide would certainly increase the number of vessels on our register. Currently the register focuses primarily on private yachts, they have developed a significant commercial vessel registration practice as well,” said Mrs. Arman. She added, “But as a jurisdiction, we also have a very successful financial services sector and we have a very successful banking sector. We have maritime clusters that have been developed with special concessions to encourage maritime¬†industry to develop a presence here. If we could develop all of that together we would all benefit. Not just the flag, but the industry as a whole.”

The conference runs from May 2nd through to 4 May.
