There are two more days of competition for the Intersecondary track and field competition. Coach Derek Larner says this is a once a year opportunity for some students to get to run on a proper track. Over 300 students, from seven schools will be participating in the championships. There will be a variety of events taking place, from 100m to relays.
For athletes it takes looks of training and dedication to get ready for the race. For Williams Edwards, a student at Cayman Prep, it’s also an opportunity to prepare for bigger competition. William has qualified for the 2016 CARIFTA. Williams has already taken on the 3,000m at the Intersecondary championiships, and will next take on the 1,500m and the 4 x 400.
Young Molly Kehoe, also from Cayman Prep, is building on success from other races. She most recently came in third at the Valentine Mile race. On the first day of competition at the Intersecondary championships, she placed first in the 800m. Next she will take part in the 1,500m.
The public is invited to come and spectate as students continue with the competition.
