Afghanistan and Zimbabwe both won 10 March to take one step closer to advancing to the main draw of the ICC World T20 Championship.
Playing in the preliminary round, Hong Kong batted first and reached 116 for six in its 20 overs. Afghanistan needed just 18 overs to track down that total and go on to the six-wicket win.
Zimbabwe, meanwhile, successfully defended its total of 1476 for seven against Scotland. Scotland got within 11 runs but lost its final wicket with two balls to go, ending the team’s run in the tournament.
“I think it’s quite remarkable that’s the first time I’ve played against Zimbabwe in my cricketing career pf xix years,” Scotland Captain Preston Mommsen said. “Quite clearly there’s no substantial gap between the two teams. I’m absolutely not surprised Afghanistan has beaten them 4-nil in a T20 series. It’s disappointing obviously we haven’t come here and delivered. I still thin we’re a very talented side and we’ve let ourselves down.”
