Academy wins on penalties to advance to FA Cup semifinals

Academy Sports Club edged George Town Sports Club on penalty kicks Sunday 10 April to advance to the semifinals of the Cayman Islands Football Association FA Cup.

The teams were even at 1-1 after regulation and each converted their first five penalties.

With George Town keeper Mario Dinnall taking the sixth attempt, Academy keeper Odayne Lynch then made the save. Academy’s Yannick Solomon then hit for Academy to give them the win 6-5 on penalty shot advantage.

Acadmey’s Clayton Forrest opened scoring in the 40th minute, weaving his way through a handful of defenders before sending a left-footed strike to the back of the net.

George Town equalised late in the second half when Justin Pierre took a free kick with the first touch and sent it off the hands of the Lynch from about 15 yards out.

In other games, Scholars beat Future, 2-1. Elite was a 5-0 winner over North Side and Jonathan Ebanks scored in the 90th minute to deliver Bodden Town a 2-1 win over Cayman Athletic.
