Crown says no motive for George Town murder

No possible motive.

That’s how the Crown described the murder of 20 year old Jason Powery. Shot dead from close range, outside a George Town bar last year.

The trial of two brothers accused of the murder began Tuesday (19 April).

Justin Ramoon and his brother Osbourne Douglas both say they never murdered Jason Powery.

In court, the Director of Public Prosecutions began the job of proving they did.

Cheryl Richards QC, accepted they cannot find a positive reason why the 20 year old West Bayer was shot dead outside Globe Bar last summer.

But she told the judge alone trial CCTV evidence will show the two men’s movements on the evening of July 1 and eye-witnesses will recall seeing Mr. Douglas getting the gun and Mr. Ramoon shoot him oncc, in the head from close range.

As well as denying the murder charge, the pair have also plead not guilty to the possession of an unlicensed firearm. The trial before his Honour Mr. Justice CharlesQuin is expected to last two weeks.

Cayman 27’s Paul Kennedy was in court and has the latest.
