The 3rd Annual Deputy Governor 5K (DG 5K) Challenge kicks off this weekend.
Residents in Cayman Brac will be the first in the community that will be able to participate in this year’s challenge.
The race began as a passion project for the Deputy Governor, Hon. Franz Manderson. A few years ago Mr. Manderson made a major life change, focusing on eating healthy and exercising. He says since he’s made that change he hasn’t taken a single sick day in the last four years. He wanted to see health and wellness spread throughout the civil service, and wider community.
In addition to getting people to exercise, the DG 5K Challenge will also benefit a local charity. The chosen charity for 2016 is the Cayman Heart Fund (CHF). The CHF is raising fund to purchase an ambulance for the Health Services Authority. The cost is $150,000. So far the CHF has raised $50,000. The Deputy Governor’s goal is to raise another $50,000 for the fund.
Registration in Cayman Brac will take place throughout this week between 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. at the District Administration Building, as well as on race day.
