Inmates give a helping hand

Inmates from Northward Prison gave helping hands to the community Wednesday (13 April) morning, using rakes trash bags and wheelbarrows, cleaning one mile of debris from the Jackie Bay beach in North Side.

The inmates were out from sunrise this morning, accompanied by two other members of the prison staff who assisted the men in their efforts of making the beach clean. The inmates were summoned after one North Side resident, called the prison and requested assistance of the inmates after previously seeing community efforts  carried out by the prison in the past.

The men expressed that it is a good feeling to be apart of community activities and inmate Rennie Cole says this is one step which any member of the community can take. “You do not have to wait until you are being prosecuted to do community service guys on the outside can go and volunteer to do community service as well and clean up the community,” Mr.  Cole said.

The prison staff says they are expected to continue community efforts as this one in the future and is expected to assist in the Earth Day clean-up.
