Parchment: key for local bball lies with overseas competition

Cayman’s new basketball boss says he’s focusing on getting domestic players playing more international competition.

Appearing on the 13 April episode of Let’s Talk Sports, Cayman Islands Basketball Association President Richard Parchment says his vision for the local game includes playing more overseas teams.

“We’ve got to be focused on Island Games and (the Caribbean Basketball Confederation championships) as two of our main tournaments,” Parchment said. “But I’m gonna be focused specifically on Island Games to make sure we have top, solid teams going there. We’re also going to resume having international tournaments here in Cayman. We did when I first was President. We have the likes of St. Andres, Jamaica, Canada and some others in the region are all interested in coming here to play. So we’re gonna work; we had a meeting last night, one of our Executive meetings, and we made a decision. We’re gonna start inviting international teams back in.”
