Schippers starts outdoor season with WL time

World women’s 200-metres champion Dafne Schippers opened her 2016 outdoor season with a world-leading run of 22.25 at the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational in Gainesville, Fla., on 22 April.

The Dutch sprinter quickly put distance between herself and her nearest rival, world indoor 400m bronze medallist Quanera Hayes, who ran a personal best of 22.89 despite trailing a long way in her wake.

Schippers, the 2015 European athlete of the year, has never run a 200-metres so fast so early in the season.
