Students at Sir John A Cumber Primary School are wrapping up their rounds after being introduced to the game of golf.
Cayman 27 previously brought you the story on golf being introduced to SJAC students through the physical education curriculum.
After putting in work at school, the students this week got to apply what they learned on the course at the North Sound Golf Club.
“When we were practicing at our school field we were doing good,” Sumayyah Gordon said. “But now that we’ve practiced a lot more, we’ve got a lot better.”
Students years four through six took part in the golf instruction, many of them playing the game for the first time.
“It’s important to expose these kids to all different varieties of sports to give them an opportunity to see what each sport entails,” North Sound Golf Club General Manager Jeff Sauvage said. “And golf — a lot of these kids really wouldn’t have the opportunity to experience golf. So it’s just wonderful for us to get the opportunity to meet with these kids. And truth be told — if you asked any of the professionals that had a chance to work with these kids — I think we got a lot more out of this than these kids. It’s just been a wonderful experience for us.”
