Windies’ Samuels outlines players’ issues with WIPA

Marlon Samuels recently voiced his opinion on why some West Indies players continue to distance themselves from the West Indies Players Association.

At the centre of the issue for many is a new pay structure intended to “spread the wealth” among professional cricketers throughout the Caribbean. Windies players say they’re seeing a drastic reduction in their pay.

“It’s very unfair,” Samuels recently said on an episode of SportsMax Zone. “And if you look at it, we’re moving from Test match money sponsorship for $17,500 to $5,000. I started in 2000 making $5,000 US. You’re telling me 15, 16 years later I have to go back to $5,000?”
