Woman gets run over by dump truck and dies in her sister’s arms

The 66 year old woman who was run over by a dump truck has now been identified as Esther Scott. The incident happened in her yard in East End yesterday afternoon.

Esther’s sister, Alide Fisher, said it was a day like any other, she came home from fishing to find her sister at home.

“Esther was standing out there by the road, looking down the road,” said Ms Fisher.  Shortly after a dump truck arrived and dropped a load of fill. Ms Fisher saw her sister sign a receipt to acknowledge she had received the load, she then looked away for a couple minutes and when she looked back she saw her sister’s body laying on the ground, bloody and mangled. She says she was helpless and all Ms Fisher could do was call her name as she died in her arms.

“Esther, Esther,” said Ms Fisher. She added, “I saw her fingers move on her right hand, and she stuck them up, and I placed my right hand into her hand and she squeezed my fingers, and I called her again…Esther, Esther.”

It is still unclear how Ms Scott ended up being run over by the dump truck, but what is clear is the hole now left in her family’s life.

A 43 year old driver from North Side has been released on police bail, he was arrested yesterday on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
