Career criminal caged thanks to victim

A dangerous career criminal is jailed for eight years and police say locking up Mark Seymour makes Cayman a safer place.

On Wednesday (11 May) he was sentenced for wounding, after a man was stabbed outside a busy Seven Mile nightclub. It’s his 67th conviction.

Today the police praised the bravery of the victim and said without his cooperation, his attacker may never have been caught and convicted.

“It is very satisfying. A lot of work goes into these cases,” said Detective Constable Samantha Sillitoe.

“We need assistance from victims. In this case, the victim assisted us very, very well. From the beginning to the end, he identified his attacker, he provided statements, he went to court, gave evidence and saw it through to the end.

“Without his assistance, we would not have got Mark Seymour convicted. That is very satisfying for the victim, his family, myself and for the people of Cayman to know this man is now behind bars.”
