The Cayman Islands Football Association 4 May confirms it has suspended two Bodden Town Football Club players for their roles in an assault last month that sent a referee to the hospital.
Acting CIFA President Bruce Blake said in an e-mail to Cayman 27 CIFA’s Disciplinary Committee issued “lengthy suspensions” for the players. He did not respond to follow-up questions seeking the exact length of the bans and the names of the players.
Blake said a letter explaining the ruling was sent to the club 4 May and that he does not wish to comment further as the players have the right to appeal the ruling.
According to police, the players were sent off in a CIFA Premier League match versus Academy last month but returned to the pitch to assault the official. An RCIPS spokesperson says police continue to investigate the matter and the players could face charges.
CIFA’s Competitions Committee also ruled to award the match to Academy by a score of 3-0. The match was abandoned after the incident occurred.
