An animal welfare officer tells a court of the “gruesome” moment she found a dead dog, tied to a tree.
And after further inspection…. Maggie Baldino went on to find more carcasses of animals at a farm in North Side.
That land was being leased by farmer Marcel Archer. He denies four cruelty to animal charges and one charge of abandonment.
The officer for the Department of Agriculture said as well as the body of the dog, they also found carcasses of 14 rabbits, and a number of chickens. She added that one of the surviving seven rabbits, later succumbed to its injuries.
Mr. Archer had said he had left the animals in the care of another man, Jamaican Austin Booth.
But Mr. Booth says he stopped looking after them when the accused no longer paid him. The prosecution finished its case Monday (9 May), but the trial has been adjourned to a later date to hear the defence.
