ICTA bares its teeth after LA vote to boost fines

TV, telephone, and internet providers who run afoul of the rules better be prepared to pay up big under new telecom regulations.

The Legislative Assembly voted to give the information and telecommunications authority, also known as ICTA, increased capacity to fine violators.

The hope is bigger fines and strict enforcement will nudge providers into giving customers the services they pay for.

The maximum fine for violators has jumped from $25,000 to $500,000

For ongoing violations, companies can face fines of up to $25,000 per day.
