Playing the beautiful game to boost spirits – that’s what some government agencies did on Monday (16 May).
The inter-departmental football match took place on Discovery Day at the CIFA field in Red Bay, as a way to unite the different law enforcement departments. There was also a youth football tournament that day.
“Seeing the children happy and seeing them having that fellowship of bondage between, police officers, who people often see us as just the people who enforce the law and nothing else, so that is one of the reasons why we included them in this tournament,” said league organiser Athelston Watts.
“We come out here to get better at football and to show other people we can play football and you know you never know in a chance you get scouted and you know you can go outside the island and represent your own island you know,” said Mosar Madrid, a player for the RCIPS youth football team.
Community members were invited to participate as well.
