Water contamination source probed

Water Authority – Cayman is trying to determine the source of a fuel spill that contaminated one customer’s water supply near Shedden Road in George Town.

The Water Authority report does not say when the fuel spill was first discovered. While the site is near the Rubis gas station on Shedden Road, the report says operations from the station were not the direct cause of the spill.

Test results received by the Water Authority last Thursday (28 April) indicate fuel contamination affected one customer who has been told not to use their water for potable purposes.

All water meters within a 500-foot radius of the spill were then tested, and no further contamination of water supplies was discovered but investigations are ongoing.
