Cayman’s corals featured in upcoming TV programme

Protecting Cayman’s coral reefs for the future is the focus of an episode of a popular travel show.

Outside TV will debut the feature story on its show “Dispatches” on august first…

Director and editor Marcia Reinauer said she initially set out to cover the growing sport of freediving and the months long volunteer effort to restore a reef damaged by the Carnival Magic in August 2014

But then the MV Zenith came to town and made world headlines.

“By the time I got down there, three days prior, the zenith dropped her anchor on the coral reef, and the story had become more important than when I had first prepared to head down there and by the time I came back, we had a full half hour show,” said Ms. Reinauer.

The documentary also dives in headfirst to Cayman’s cruise berthing debate, and its potential impacts on Grand Cayman’s reef systems.
