Women’s cricket brings home the trophy

Cayman Islands National Women’s Cricket Team won the Legacy International T20 Tournament in Philadelphia over the weekend.

Cayman played against the Starlet’s in the finals. Starlets batted first and Cayman’s bowlers restricted them to 51 runs in their 20 overs. In the chase, Cayman only needed 13 overs to pass that total and finish with 52 runs.

The ladies played 3 matches, against the Legacy Woman Cricket team and the Starlets, winning the two preliminaries and the final game. Those with the team say they are happy with the win.

Dave Holness, Women’s Cricket team coach says, “This will show that woman’s cricket in Cayman is alive and we can only grow and get better if we just put our minds to it and just put in hard work. Hopefully, we will have some younger females come on stream and realize ‘hey, there are things happening in cricket here in the Cayman islands for the ladies.’

The women attended last years tournament, but lost by one run.

Two individual prizes were also given to Mahalia Morgan for the Best Youth Player and Marica Moiten for Best Wicket Keeper.
