Brac Autumn Fest a celebration of art, music, and poetry

Cayman Brackers celebrated the season with arts, music and poetry Friday (14 Oct) in Creek.

Dan and Lisa Scott opened their home to the public, and the sand yard around the house was lit up in the warm hues of fall. The gentle breeze carried the mouth-watering scents of fragrant foods throughout the grounds, and children danced, ran, and play as folk songs filled the air.

Cayman 27’s Joe Avary travelled to the Brac to document all the fun.

“This time of year we just thought it would be nice to have something to do, some  function that we could all get together, do some folk songs, do something,” said festival organiser Simone Scott. “Tonight it’s about performing arts, it’s about folk songs.”
“The atmosphere is great for it, it’s a quiet, quaint island, it needs, it just needs a like bit of flow to it, and that’s what we are doing, giving that little bit of flow to it,” she continued.
Musicians entertained those gathered to enjoy the night air. Antonio Sanchez and Yoan Demayo brought a variety of styles to the gathering, and the acoustics of the pre-1930’s era front porch did the music justice.
“We came prepared you know, to share our music, and we brought a lot of styles of music, we came with a little reggae,” said Mr. Sanchez. “They seem to love it.”
“That clapping in the back is everything I want it to be,” said Ms. Scott as the musicians took their bows to applause. “The performance and the kids and the singing, and the art inside, it’s a all coming together.”
She told Cayman 27 there is much to explore on Cayman Brac.
“The bluff, the caves, the trails, the nature trails that take you from one side of the island to the next,” she explained. “Come on down.”
