Let’s clear this story for take off — Thursday 20 October is International Day of the Air Traffic Controller.
Cayman’s air traffic controllers are responsible for many aspects of the airport’s day-to-day operations, including flight movement on the ground and coordinating aircraft movement in and around Cayman Islands airspace.
Air Traffic Control Manager Erick Bodden says it’s great to recognise employees who play such a vital role in making sure the airport runs smoothly.
“It’s very important because everyone likes a little bit of praise and likes to know that they’re doing a good job,” Mr. Bodden said. “And more often than not we tend to say it to ourselves and we leave the community out. We leave the traveling public out, who are essentially our customers. And we want them to know that we are here, we’re doing a good job and we’re supporting our own to say, ‘good job, guys.'”
International Day of the Air Traffic Controller is celebrated on 20 October to commemorate the Foundation of the International Federation of Air Traffic Controllers’ Association.
