Northside MLA Ezzard Miller made good on his promise on Wednesday resigning from the Complaints Commissioner Oversight Committee.
But he was not the only one stepping down as the entire committee; West Bay MLA’s Bernie Bush, Captain Eugene Ebanks and Bodden Town MLA Alva Suckoo handed in their resignations in solidarity with their chairman.
Now that committee is charged with overseeing the work of the Complaints Commissioner, who investigates reports of maladministration in the public service.
But the Complaints Commissioner, the Information Commissioner and the Police Complaints Authority are coming under the new Office of the Ombudsman and Wednesday’s resignations are in protest of that merger.
“I am not aware of how this thing is going to be done in relation to the constitutional position, the legislative positions, whether there is going to be a parliamentary, legislative oversight committee,” Mr Miller said.
He added that the team heading up the Office of Ombudsman project did not consult with his committee before moving forward.
