Elections Office waits for law changes

With only 32 weeks left until the 2017 election the Legislative Assembly has yet to begin debate on needed changes to the Elections Law.
But Elections Supervisor Wesley Howell says it will either begin Friday or early next week.
And even if it doesn’t he says his team will be ready to make the changes whenever the LA gives final approval.
The biggest change is the introduction of the “one man, one vote” system and the creation of 19 single- member constituencies.
Mr Howell says his staff has been working feverishly to put everything in place so that the changes are implemented as smoothly as possible.
“We are hopeful that any changes that come in the committee stage drafting won’t be a far departure from where we are. I mean, I think we have enough time to adjust for minor changes, but  I do not expect to see anything major in terms of the changes coming through on the legislation.
The LA will likely open its Friday debate at 10am, but it is unclear if the Elections Bill will be debated as the agenda is often made available only on the morning of the sitting.
