Tournament Director for the upcoming ITF-sanctioned Cayman Cup says he’s pushing for more elite-level tennis tournaments in the Caribbean.
Karl Hale, who originally is from Jamaica, says he’s leading the way with the Cayman tournament and others around the region because he says more tournaments will attract better foreign players. In turn, he says, we’ll see the level of tennis improve in this part of the world.
“For foreign players, it’s much more economical to come for a slew of tournaments, a circuit of tournaments, instead of just one,” Hale said. “So we’ll get a higher level of players and more players as well. And the vision of it is basically — we had the Olympic champion from the Caribbean this year. So there’s a lot of potential here, so we need more competitive opportunities and this is providing it for them.”
The 2016 Cayman Cup runs 31 October – 5 November.
