Scotland Thrashes Literacy Initiative

Former Cabinet Minister Mark Scotland said Cayman’s educational leaders should not rest on their laurels when it comes to literacy rates.

In August education Minister Tara Rivers said 86 percent of year one students are reading at required levels, a statistic which is not sitting well with former Youth Minister Mark Scotland.

“86 percent of the children should be reading at the level anyway and the initiative that we should be doing is to correct the 14 percent because tell me what happen to the fourteen percent now,” Mr. Scotland said.

Minister of Education The Hon. Tara Rivers will join Cayman 27’s Tammi Sulliman tonight (Oct 27) on “The Panel” to discuss ¬†concerns parents might still have with the education system.
