Cannibis Oil changes approved on second reading

Cancer patients in Cayman may soon have the chance to see if they can get pain relief using cannabis oil.  This afternoon (October 10) the Legislative Assembly approved amendments to the Misuse of Drugs Bill.  The second reading of that bill today takes the use of cannabis oil one step closer to becoming legal.

Dennie Warren Jr. has a wife who’s battling stage 4 lung cancer, she’s using an inhibitor that could stop working at any time.  Mr. Warren has been a vocal advocate for legalizing cannabis oil, something that has faced either opposition or skepticism about the oil, the markets, or whether this opens the door to eventually legalizing ganja or other drugs.

Added to this are concerns from Independent MLA Ezzard Miller who questioned the sources where the oil will be obtained for importation.  “It is no good making these laws here if there is no source for the medication and I remain to be convinced there is a legitimate source from which importers can import this medication,” Mr. Miller said.

Mr. Warren joins Cayman27’s Pat Kreitlow to discuss the issue.
