Tackling healthy eating

Instilling health eating habits in our children, it’s been a long-standing issue in Cayman and the Caribbean at large.

In the Cayman Islands, one out four school children are considered overweight and that number is climbing. Initiatives over the years have looked at healthier lunch options being offered to students – but there’s still a ways to go.

Dr. Lystra Fletcher-Paul is the UN Regional Food and Agriculture Organisation Coordinator. She recently took the helm and has been working on the school feeding programmes as an initiative under the FAO’s mandate to eradicate hunger and poverty.
