Tibbetts: Farming is the most important sub-sector

Cayman hosted for the first time ever the Caribbean Week of Agriculture Conference. Minister of Land and Agriculture The Hon. Kurt Tibbetts spoke about the need for more investment in farming.

Now in its 14th year the theme for this year’s conference, is “investing in food and agriculture” where leaders across the region are discussing ways to make the Caribbean as a whole more attractive to foreign investors.

Mr. Tibbetts said getting investors to give money towards Farmers in Cayman will take agriculture to the next level locally and regionally by joining those with the funds with farmers here on island.

“What we are trying to highlight is the possibilities not just in the Cayman Islands but throughout the region for capital investment in agriculture to sort of marry the two where farmers have more opportunity and more access to capital and those entities with the capital will see the benefits of investing in agriculture,” Mr. Tibbetts said
