There have been 36 reported cases of child sexual abuse this year in Cayman, the Red Cross is hoping to help slash that number.
Around two dozen people came out on saturday for this seminar, which included a viewing of the darkness to light documentary, aimed at educating adults on the perils of child sexual abuse.
The programme also teaches how to respond if abuse is suspected and outlines the appropriate reporting procedures, as children often know their abusers.
“I definitely feel that the statistics and the idea that ninety percent of our children are actually abused by persons they know and so the idea of stranger danger is no longer a reality or what we believe to be true, I think that reality has definitely set in, I think the importance of adults taking on that social responsibility in order to protect children is becoming more real,” said Programme facilitator, Racquel Duhaney.
