Diwali celebrates triumph of light

Hindus in Cayman came together on Saturday (5 November) to celebrate Diwali, one of their major annual festivals which signifies the triumph of light over darkness. The Indian community also uses the event as the hub for a festival that teaches children about culture, food, music and compassion.

“We want to teach our kids how we celebrate meaning, how we have to give, how we help the poor, give a gift and make kids happy,” said Abdul Hameed, one of the event organisers.

Mr. Hameed says the community also expresses its gratitude to Cayman for the opportunities they have to work and raise a family here.
