Fire destroys South Sound home

A fire in South Sound this morning left a house completely engulfed in flames after firefighters said it is believed the blaze originated in the garage.

Acting Deputy Fire Chief Randy Rankin said on approaching the house reports on the details quickly changed.

“In the garage we had some cars that actually caught fire so it went from brush fire call to structure fire call on route,” Mr. Rankin said.

Mr. Rankin said on arrival the two people who occupy the home were outside and said neighbours were quickly evacuated for precautionary measures.

“They were both out when we got here the neighbours were evacuated out to the front of the street just for safety and after we cleared the area we got those people to come back in,” Mr. Rankin explained.

Fire officials said the fire is under investigation to determine the cause.
