Industry leaders from Cayman and the United States gathered today to discuss ways to make Cayman’s tourism product even stronger, and they’re looking to the American southwest to do it.
About 40 people attended the presentations, including representatives from online travel sites, who heard minister Moses Kirkconnell talk about the growth of stay over tourists and cruise ship arrivals and its impact on the economy.
The minister also noted how the expansion of the Owen Roberts airport buildings and runway will accommodate larger flights, from faraway locations.
International tourism leaders reacted positively to Cayman airways running direct flights into Texas and the potential for new flights in the southwest and the west coast.
“With the stimulation of this market, we’ve seen marked visitation results, so we know that there is a lot more work we can do in the south-west, but in addition to that, Houston will become a hub for west coast travellers, so they are able to connect now with three different airlines serving out of the texas market,” said Director of Tourism Department, Rosa Harris.
The attendees were also the first to witness a new animated tour of what the *inside of the Owen Roberts terminal building should look like when the current renovation is completed.
