Lawyers hand in proposals for Legal Practitioners Bill

The Legislative Assembly will resume in January and it’s expected the Legal Practitioners Bill will return to the legislative agenda.
Financial Services Minister Hon. Wayne Panton says three separate proposals with recommendations for more amendments have been submitted to his office.
Attorneys and members of the public had until November 10 to submit proposed changes to the law.
And Mr Panton told Cayman 27 he’s received two proposals from single practitioners and one from a group of small firms and single practitioners.
Those proposals are to be reviewed by an independent commission which will then make recommendations for committee stage amendments. Now there have been several attempts to bring a Legal Practitioners Bill to the parliament and this proposed bill is first to actually make this far. Both Mr Panton and Premier Hon. Alden McLaughlin say this bill will be brought to the house.
